3.   Celetna Street/Celetná

Celetná is the street that runs from Namesti Republiky, where the tower and Obecní dům are located, to Old Town Square. It was so named because in the 13th century the bakers lived and worked there, and the name of a particular type of bread they made was akin the word Celetna. This street figured prominently in the culture of the city in the days of kings, because they would use this road when going from Vysehrad to St. Vítus Cathedral. Great legends survive about Royal parades including never before seen novelties such as elephants and camels. Today it is home to distinguished shops with crystals and jewelry, as well as tacky souvenirs shops.
